In a significant development, Hardik Pandya will be back as India's captain when Gautam Gambhir begins his new journey as India's head coach on July 26. The India tour of Sri Lanka will begin with a three-match T20I series, and it will be Hardik who is set to be the man in charge when Gambhir is at the helm.

In another news, KL Rahul is set to be the captain of India’s squad for ODIs, while Shreyas Iyer, who lost his BCCI’s central contract before IPL 2024, will be back in the mix as well.

Notably, Shreyas played under Gambhir for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who had a spectacular IPL 2024 while achieving the triumph after 10 years. No wonder Gambhir would be advocating for Shreyas to bring him back into the mix, especially after the rough phase he got.

SKY To Be India's Vice-Captain In SL T20Is

Of course, there won’t be seniors such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah, who will have a well-earned break after the famous T20 World Cup triumph. Even Rishabh Pant’s workload management will be monitored, as Gambhir is all set to sit alongside BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar, among others, to pick the squads next week.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav will take the vice-captain’s duty under Hardik Pandya’s leadership in T20Is.

It will be interesting to see what call the BCCI will take regarding Ishan Kishan in the future.
