The Gandhinagar Lok Sabha Premier League cricket tournament was inaugurated on Monday evening at the Chharodi Gurukul ground. The event, graced by the presence of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and celebrated cricketer Hardik Pandya, has sparked excitement among the local cricket fraternity.

Hardik Pandya, currently on the mend from an ankle injury sustained at the ICC World Cup 2023, took a momentary pause from his recovery to attend the ceremony.

The cricket league, a part of the broader initiative 'Khelo Gandhinagar', is proof of the growing emphasis on sports culture in the region. Under the patronage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Sansad Khelkood Mahotsav was recently launched in Gandhinagar, seeing participation from over 1,37,000 players in 42 sports disciplines.

The Gandhinagar Lok Sabha Premier League aims to further this vision, with a staggering 1,078 teams and 16,100 players from the Gandhinagar constituency engaging in the sport.

The tournament is set against the backdrop of the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway in Ahmedabad, covering seven assembly constituencies. With more than 1,000 teams and 15,000 players registered, the competition promises intense cricket action over 21 days across 13 grounds. Matches will feature a tennis ball format consisting of 10 overs each, ensuring fast-paced and engaging cricket for players and spectators alike.

Having been named the captain of the Mumbai Indians, succeeding Rohit Sharma, Hardik's comeback to the field is highly anticipated by fans and teammates alike. The lanky all-rounder will aim to emulate his success with the Gujarat Titans and lead MI to their sixth IPL title.
