In an unexpected blow, star-rounder Hardik Pandya will miss India's upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 clash against New Zealand at Dharamsala on Sunday.

Pandya will travel to Bangalore and be treated at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where a specialist doctor from England will attend to the player as per a report in Indian Express.

The all-rounder sustained an unfortunate ankle injury during India's win over Bangladesh at Pune on Thursday while attempting to stop a straight drive off his own bowling.

The report stated an unnamed BCCI official, who claims that Pandya is expected to rejoin with Team India ahead of their clash with England on October 29 in Lucknow.

Here's what BCCI Official said

"He will be heading to Bengaluru where he has been asked to report to the NCA. The medical team assessed his ankle scan report and it looks he will be fine by taking an injection. The BCCI consulted a specialist doctor in England and they too were of the similar opinion. He will be missing the next game."

The BCCI medical team assessed that Pandya had twisted his ankle and that the injury was not that serious and would heal after being administered injections.

Pandya forms a vital cog in India's plans for World Cup, who provides additional depth in the playing XI. In four WC 2023 matches, Pandya has shined as a bowler claiming five wickets, while is still to get proper time in the middle as a batter.

After a massive victory over Bangladesh in Pune, the Rohit Sharma and company will fly to Dharamsala for Sunday's big clash against New Zealand, who are enjoying a WC winning streak against India since 2003.
