Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) sustained their dream run in the IPL 2025, defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a whopping 100-run margin. The victory not only strengthened MI's chances of finishing the group-stage as one of the top two teams but also helped Hardik Pandya script a rare record as the captain of the five-time IPL winning franchise.

Hardik Pandya Achieves Rare Record As MI Captain

MI and RR have enjoyed a fierce rivalry in the Indian Premier League. However, when it comes to facing off at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the Royals have a clear upper hand, winning six out of nine games against Mumbai Indians.

Thus, MI's 100-run win marked their third victory at the Royals' den in a historic first after thirteen long years. Sachin Tendulkar was the first MI captain to lead them to a victory over RR in their backyard, while Harbhajan Singh repeated the feat two years later in IPL 2012.

Since then, MI hadn't recorded a single win over RR at Sawai Mansingh Stadium until last night when they emerged triumphant against the hosts by 100 runs. Thus, Hardik Pandya became only the third MI skipper to secure an IPL victory at the iconic venue. Interestingly, MI's most successful IPL captain Rohit Sharma doesn't find a place in this elusive list.

Regarding the match, Mumbai Indians powered themselves to an imposing total of 217 runs, riding on stellar knocks from each of their top four batters.

In response, the Royals couldn't put up a fight against MI's rampant bowling attack, getting bowled out for a paltry 117-run score. Trent Boult and Karn Sharma bagged three wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Deepak Chahar shared the remaining scalps.
