Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya fell to yet another disappointing outing this IPL 2024 season, at least as a player through his latest appearance against Rajasthan Royals.

Leading his side at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on April 22, the cricketer scored a sluggish 10-ball 10 with the bat before the all-rounder conceded 11 runs in the opening over of the Rajasthan Royals’ run-chase.

Shortly after Pandya’s opening over, a legion of Mumbai Indians fans took to social media and expressed their rage over the cricketer’s self-promoting tactics.

Several fans disparaged the all-rounder for batting above hard-hitting radical Tim David during the death overs, and also expressed their displeasure for not allowing in-form Jasprit Bumrah or Gerald Coetzee for the first over of the innings.

Fans react to Hardik Pandya’s self-promotion in RR vs MI

Batting at number seven, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya arrived to the crease following the dismissal of Nehal Wadhera at 151-5 during the 17th over of the innings.

Against the search of quick runs in the slog overs, Pandya managed to score just 10 runs from 10 balls despite batting above Tim David.

After MI managed to list 179-9 at the end of their innings, the all-round skipper once again employed himself to bowl the opening Rajasthan Royals over in place of regular new-ball merchants Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee.

The decision ended up costing the Mumbai Indians franchise as Rajasthan Royals openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler accumulated 11 runs of the over.

Pandya’s self-promotion tactics soon became the talk of the cricketing town on social media, with several MI fans slandering the cricketer for preferring himself over others. Here is a look at some of the fans reacting to the cricketer’s latest set of decisions on X (formerly Twitter).

Hardik Pandya, who was appointed as Mumbai Indians captain for the IPL 2024 season in place of decade-long skipper Rohit Sharma, has so far led the franchise to three wins amidst four defeats.

A win over Rajasthan Royals at this stage of the tournament will help them get close to the playoffs reckoning.
