Groupism Within MI Camp; Rohit Sharma, Pandya Heading Two Lobbies - Reports

Amidst the brewing disappointment over their second consecutive defeat at the start of IPL 2024, passionate fans of the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise would be aggrieved to learn of reported rift and groupism within the camp hurting the side since premier allrounder Hardik Pandya's captaincy takeover.

Pandya facing backlash following his controversial return and leadership appointment after MI sacked his mighty successful predecessor Rohit Sharma aside, it is understood there are two sides within the camp and the players aren't bonding together like they used to, feeling miffed since Rohit's unceremonious departure from the helm.

'Dainik Jagran' has reported MI have conflicting "two groups", where Rohit, ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah and young middle-order batter Tilak Varma among others are on one side and captain Pandya as well as opener Ishan Kishan and the rest are part of the other side.

Reports Indicate Groupism, Rift Hurting MI

The report also indicated that despite him facing the heat from the franchise's fans on social media, Pandya has full support of MI's popular owners Aakash and Nita Ambani; and that no reversal or u-turn to have Rohit back on the captaincy post is on the cards.

These speculations and claims continue to tarnish the image of a Mumbai team with great history and legacy as one of the most successful teams in domestic T20 cricket history, with a joint-most five trophies won in the IPL alongside their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

It doesn't help that MI haven't made the brightest of starts on the field at this edition of the toughest T20 league, losing to Sunrisers after embarrassingly conceding the highest-ever IPL team score of 277.

A result that came on the back of MI's loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) in the first game.
