The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pounded 277 runs against Mumbai Indians in match number eight of the IPL 2024 season in front of their home crowd at Hyderabad.

Opener Travis Head, number three Abhishek Sharma, and middle-order batter Heinrich Klaasen were the catalysts of SRH's batting carnage, which overtook RCB's decade-long record of posing the highest-ever total in an IPL innings.

After AB de Villiers hilariously reacted to SRH's record-breaking act, the RCB franchise has now congratulated the 'Orange Army' for their batting exhibition.

RCB congratulates SRH for record IPL total

In IPL 2013, the RCB franchise scored a staggering 263-5 against Pune Warriors India, thanks to Chris Gayle's 175 and AB de Villiers's eight-ball 31.

RCB's batting hurricane in Bengaluru remained the IPL's highest-ever total until SRH surpassed it in match number eight of the IPL 2024 season against Mumbai Indians at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Just a few moments after SRH's batting juggernaut, RCB took to X (formerly Twitter) and congratulated the franchise for attaining a significant IPL record.

The RCB also signified the efforts of Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen for their blistering half-centuries in the innings. They wrote:

“Our Head's spinning. Klass innings! Congratulations on setting a new bench-mark! Sharmao Mat, records are meant to be broken. Well done, @SunRisers”

Apart from Travis Head (62 off 24) and Heinrich Klaasen (80* off 34), number three batsman Abhishek Sharma also blasted a 16-ball half-century before he made his way back to the sheds with a 23-ball 63 to his name. Chasing 278, Mumbai Indians pounded 246 runs in response to fall 31 short of their target.

The SRH, under Pat Cummins, will now face Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on March 31 for their subsequent IPL 2024 challenge.
