In a significant development for the Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Rashid Khan has recovered from his injury and is poised to participate in the upcoming three-match T20I series between Afghanistan and Ireland, starting on March 15 in Sharjah.

Rashid underwent surgery immediately after the ODI World Cup and has been sidelined from professional cricket since then.

Despite being considered one of the premier spinners of the modern era, he was compelled to withdraw from various tournaments, including the BBL, PSL, and T20I series against India and the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.

Additionally, he missed the one-off Test and the ongoing three-match ODI series against Ireland. During his absence, Ibrahim Zadran led the T20I team in matches against India and Sri Lanka.

Cricbuzz has now confirmed that Rashid will make his eagerly anticipated comeback just a week before the IPL kicks off. This development serves as a significant boost not only for the Afghanistan national team but also for the Gujarat Titans.

Although Afghanistan has yet to finalize its squad for the T20I series against Ireland, it has been confirmed that Rashid will return to action and assume leadership duties.

Rashid previously served as the vice-captain of the Gujarat Titans in the IPL seasons of 2022 and 2023. He even led the franchise in several matches when Hardik Pandya was sidelined due to recurring back issues. The 25-year-old cricketer has showcased impressive leadership qualities for Afghanistan and his IPL team.

His wealth of experience in international captaincy will be invaluable as he deputises for Shubman Gill, who is set to lead an IPL team for the first time in the upcoming season.
