Glenn Maxwell is one of the most celebrated cricketers in the world, but has not been in great form in IPL 2025. It created doubts over his selection for the game against Chennai Super Kings, but during the toss, PBKS skipper, Shreyas Iyer revealed that Maxwell has a fractured finger.

He also mentioned that they have not yet decided on the replacement which effectively means that they will do so in future, and Maxwell is out of IPL 2025. Glenn Maxwell has been battling injuries quite regularly in the recent times, and before the finger injury, a hamstring injury also kept him out of the game for a while.
"Very sad to miss out Glenn Maxwell, who has a fractured finger. We haven't decided on the replacement so far. Yeah, we are probably sticking to our last playing XI. Not sure what the changes are. But the majority of the players are there."
Now, this latest injury is a big blow to Punjab Kings despite the Australian not being in his best form. He is known for his match-winning abilities, and could have been a big player for Punjab as the race for the playoffs heats up.
In the six matches, Maxwell batted in IPL 2025, he could score only 48 runs. Punjab Kings have lot of quality overseas options at their disposal, and Maxwell's injury now could open the doors of playing XI for them.
They also have an opportunity to bring in an overseas player as official replacement of Glenn Maxwell, and it could prove to be a blessing in disguise during the business end of the tournament.
