Cricket’s never short on drama, but this time, things went a bit too far. South Africa's Gerald Coetzee, Netherlands’ Scott Edwards, and Oman’s Sufyan Mehmood all found themselves slapped with penalties for breaking the ICC Code of Conduct.

Coetzee’s Frustration Boils Over Against India

Gerald Coetzee didn’t have the best time in the T20I series against India, which ended in a 3-1 loss for South Africa. In the fourth match, Coetzee was fuming when the umpire called one of his deliveries wide. Bowling the 15th over, he couldn’t hold back and shot an inappropriate comment at the umpire.

The result was A Level 1 offence, a demerit point, and half of his match fee gone. Match referee Andy Pycroft didn’t take it lightly, and Coetzee owned up, accepting the penalty. Now, with the T20Is done, Coetzee is gearing up for the Test series against Sri Lanka starting November 27. Coetzee and his team will be hoping he keeps his cool this time.

Netherlands Captain Edwards Throws a Fit After LBW Decision

Netherlands captain, Scott Edwards wasn’t too happy with an LBW call during the third T20I vs Oman last week. After being given out, he couldn’t resist showing his bat to the umpire. And he even tossed his bat and gloves on the field on his way back to the dressing room.

The ICC didn’t take this lightly. Edwards got two demerit points – one for showing his bat and one for the gear toss. He accepted the penalties without a hearing. Next time, he might want to think twice before letting the frustration get to him.

Sufyan Mehmood’s Over-The-Top Send-Off

Notably, Oman’s Sufyan Mehmood was also on the receiving end as he decided to give a fiery send-off to Netherlands batter Teja Nidamanuru. His send-off was aggressive enough to breach Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers actions or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction. Sufyan admitted his mistake and took the penalty from match referee Neeyamur Rashid Rahul without a hearing
