Geoff Allardice has stepped down as the CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Allardice took over the role in 2020 after his predecessor Manu Sawhney was suspended. The cricketer-turned-administrator was appointed as the ICC CEO on a full-time basis in November 2021.

He previously worked at the ICC as general manager of cricket after serving an administrative role with Cricket Australia.

Geoff Allardice joined the ICC in 2012 as the ‘General Manager of Cricket’. He also held the role of Cricket Operations Manager at Cricket Australia.

Mere days prior to the launch of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, Allardice decided to step down as the CEO of the ICC. Prior to his resignation, his role came under scrutiny, especially during the build-up of the Champions Trophy over the delay in addressing India’s possible non-participation issue.

Nonetheless, an outbound Geoff Allardice said that it was his “privilege” serving the ICC and he is “incredibly proud” of the results the world governing body has achieved.

ICC Chairman and former BCCI secretary Jay Shah also extended his best wishes to Allardice, saying:

“I want to sincerely thank Geoff for his leadership and commitment during his tenure as Chief Executive. His efforts have played a key role in advancing cricket globally.”

In their official statement, the ICC confirmed that they will soon be initiating the steps to identify Allardice’s replacement.

During his administrative days, Geoff Allardice was also a part of the selection panel for appointing the officials of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Born in 1967 in Melbourne, Allardice also played 14 first-class and four List A matches, all for the Victoria cricket team between the years 1991 and 1994.
