Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy steamrolled England’s batting line-up by picking up five key wickets in the third T20I of their three-match series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Tuesday, January 28. Securing figures of 5-24 from his four overs, Chakravarthy’s latest spell marked his second five-wicket haul in T20Is, and his first since dismantling South Africa back in November.

Notably, the 33-year-old also attained a significant landmark by deterring England’s batting ambitions in the must-win game for the visitors.

Varun Chakravarthy picked up three wickets in the series-opening first T20I in Kolkata, and added another two to his tally in Chennai as Team India took an unassailable 2-0 lead with convincing wins in both games. The right-arm spinner has now extended his series tally to 10 wickets by snaring figures of 5-24 in the third T20I match in Rajkot.

Notably, Chakravarthy has now become the first cricketer in history to take at least 10 wickets in a single bilateral T20I series between India and England. The 33-year-old might well add more English wickets to his tally in the remaining two matches of the series, set to be played on January 31 and February 2 in Pune and Mumbai respectively.

So far this series, Varun Chakravarthy has picked up 10 wickets in just three innings at a splendid bowling average of 8.50. He has also maintained an impressive economy rate of just 7.08, and is currently holding a strike rate of 7.20.

In overall T20Is, Chakravarthy has collected 29 wickets from 16 matches at an average of 14.75. The cricketer made his international debut for Team India with a T20I match against Sri Lanka in Colombo back in July 2021.
