Ball Hits Devon Conway In SA20; Can CSK Bring Mitch Owen As Replacement In IPL 2025?

In a recent development Devon Conway has been hit by a ball when Faf du Plessis hit a firm shot back at him during the recent match in SA20 2025. The Kiwi opener looked in pain after the ball hit him and he immediately left the field.

Although, Conway returned to bat during the eighth over, he did not look comfortable. The discomfort did not let him last longer as all he managed was 9 runs off 10 balls. Conway has suffered injuries previously too. In fact he missed the previous edition of the tournament owing to a finger injury. So, if the Kiwi batter misses the 2025 edition, will CSK be able to bring in the new BBL Star, Mitch Owen as a replacement?

Can Mitch Owen Come In As Replacement For Devon Conway In IPL 2025?

Mitchell Owen stunned the world with his batting abilities in the final of the BBL 2024-25. His aggressive century had a deep impact on the followers of the game and the Indian fans wanted to see him in action in the Indian Premier League. If Conway fails to play the upcoming edition of IPL,  there would be a place for an overseas opener which Owen could have filled.

However, the worst part for the CSK fans is that Mitchell Owen can't be signed for IPL 2025 as he did not register for the auction. The new Australian sensation can only be a part of the grand league in IPL 2026. 

3 Players Who Can Replace Devon Conway At The Opening Spot

1. Rachin Ravindra

The Kiwi all-rounder is a part of the CSK team and liked to bat in the top-order. However, if Conway is available, Rachin Ravindra might not get a regular chance to play in the XI. But with Conway not in the side (in case of his injury), Ravindra could take the opening spot to partner Gaikwad in most of the matches.

2. Ben Duckett

The English opener showed during the third T20I against India that he can be a very positive and aggressive presence at the top of the order. Ben Duckett's presence in the top order can provide his team with a powerful start that could give them an advantage in the game. In absence of Conway, Ben Duckett could be a great option for CSK. The left-handed batter can compliment Gaikwad nicely and lay the foundation of some formidable totals by the team. 

3. Finn Allen

The right-handed Kiwi opener remained unsold during the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Finn Allen can be a very aggressive at the top and can give his team an advantage in the powerplay. Although consistency is a problem with Allen, the impact he can leave with his power hitting might induce CSK to buy him in Conway's absence. 

All these things would come into play if Conway is ruled out of IPL 2025. However, there is no clear update on his injury status and CSK will hope that he stays fit for the entire upcoming edition.
