The focus of domestic cricket in India is now all set to shift to List A cricket after an eventful Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as the Vijay Hazare Trophy begins from December 24, most major stars in the country are set to be available, including the latest ODI centurion Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been named as the skipper of his team Maharashtra after they announced their 18-man squad for the competition.

Fresh off his maiden ODI century in the recent South Africa series, Ruturaj will be leading a power-packed side, consisting of the well-known names, including Prithvi Shaw, alongside the experienced Jalaj Saxena, Rahul Tripathi and Rajneesh Gurbani, among others. Notably, the Maharashtra cricket association has tried to create a fine blend of youth and experience, with Arshin Kulkarni, Rajvardhan Hangargegar, Siddhesh Veer and Vicky Ostwal also in the mix.

High expectations from a well-rounded squad
Following Ruturaj's departure for the national duty, the Shaw-led Maharashtra missed out on the Super League stage of the SMAT, on the virtue of net run rate, finishing third in their group, level on points with Madhya Pradesh.
However, having reached the semi-final of VHT 2024/25, before they suffered a defeat against Vidarbha, they will be aiming for another run to the knockout stages to exhibit consistency.
Apart from an overall decent SMAT, they are also well-placed in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B, with 18 points to their name, staying unbeaten after the first five rounds. Only Karnataka have more points in their group. In the VHT, they have been grouped in Elite C and will open their campaign against Punjab on December 24 in Jaipur.
