After an excellent year for both Australian men's and women's teams, where the men's side dominated against India with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the women's side weren't left behind as they won the Women's Ashes comfortably. To celebrate the incredible 2024 year for Australian cricketers, Cricket Australia held an awards ceremony to recognize and facilitate the top performers for their nation.
The top performers were given medals and awards for playing with their hearts out and performing for their side with both bat and ball.
Travis Head Bags The Top Award
The pinnacle award from the Australian men went to Travis Head, who was announced as the winner of the Allan Border Medal as well as the ODI Player of the Year. Whereas from the women's side, Annabel Sutherland was awarded the Belinda Clark Award for her exceptional performances throughout the year.
Both Head and Sutherland were first-time recipients of these awards and have been reasonably successful in helping their respective sides perform better at different junctures of the game.
The Australian men's side dominated the visiting Indian side in last year's Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), securing the series by a margin of 3-1. On the other hand, the women's side were exceptional against England, taking the series 16-0 in a complete whitewash.
The Western Australian side were brilliant in domestic cricket, winning both the Sheffield Shield and the Marsh Cup in the previous year. Alongside, the Hobart Hurricanes lifted the recently concluded Big Bash League trophy. Meanwhile, in the Women's Big Bash League, Melbourne Renegades were the champions.
Additionally, Glenn Maxwell and Cooper Connolly were named as the players of this Big Bash season. Apart from Head and Sutherland, many other players were awarded for their top contributions, including Sam Konstas, Josh Hazlewood, and Marnus Labuschagne, alongside Cameron Green, Ellyse Perry and Adam Zampa.
