Australia star cricketer Travis Head has been crowned the winner of the prestigious Allan Border Medal for 2025. This award recognises him as Australia’s best male cricketer over the past year. He also secured the Men's ODI Player of the Year award, which surely made it a memorable night for the southpaw.

Head has been in outstanding form, performing exceptionally well in all formats of the game. From home series against the West Indies in the 2023-24 season to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, he scored 1,427 runs in 29 matches and 36 innings. With an average of 43.24, he hit four centuries and five fifties, with a top score of 154. His consistent batting made him Australia’s top run-scorer during this period.

His impact wasn’t limited to international cricket. He also played key roles in franchise cricket, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His ability to perform under pressure set him apart from the rest.

Head won the Allan Border Medal with 208 votes, well ahead of his closest competitor, Josh Hazlewood, who got 158 votes. Other top contenders included Pat Cummins (147 votes), Steve Smith (105), and Mitchell Starc (87). The voting system gives more weight to Test performances, and Head’s dominance in the format helped him secure the award with ease.

Currently touring Sri Lanka with the Test team, Head accepted the award from his hotel in Galle, about 8,000 km away from the ceremony held in Melbourne. The 31-year-old was the strong favourite to win, and his exceptional performances ensured his victory.

Men’s ODI Player of the Year

In addition to the Allan Border Medal, Head was named the Men’s ODI Player of the Year. He narrowly missed out on a clean sweep, finishing just a few votes behind the winners in the Test and T20I categories.
