Former India cricketer Manoj Prabhakar has quit his role as head coach of the Nepal national cricket team, as confirmed by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Prabhakar took over the role from former Sri Lanka player Pubudu Dassanayake in August 2022.

The 56-year-old's tenure saw him coach Nepal in 5 T20Is and seven One-Day Internationals (ODI), including four World Cup Super League 2 matches. The all-rounder won the away series in Kenya and at home against the UAE.

However, losses against Scotland and Namibia cost Nepal direct qualification into the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe next year.

Nepal could also lose their ODI status if they don't win nine of their remaining 12 matches of the Super League 2.

Prabhakar and the CAN have been at loggerheads lately following several changes the former Indian player brought into the side.

In a Facebook post CAN stated

"Manoj Prabhakar has stepped down from his position of Nepal men’s national cricket team’s head coach with immediate effect on December 15, 2022. CAN has accepted his resignation and wishes him the best for his future."

Prabhakar has represented India in 39 Tests and 130 ODIs, before taking on various coaching assignments domestically and internationally.
