Amidst the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have named former international cricketer Tauseef Ahmed as interim men's national chief selector, following Inzamam ul Haq’s resignation last week.

Haq resigned after a case of conflict of interest came out in public, with the former also holding shares of a sports management company, that has several current national players under their wing.

Ahmed's first assignment will be to pick Pakistan's Test squad for their upcoming three-match series against hosts Australia, starting December 14.

The first Test will be played at Perth, with Melbourne, and Sydney hosting the customary Boxing Day and New Year Test.

The 65-year-old played 34 Tests and 70 ODIs for Pakistan between 1980 and 1993, claiming 148 wickets combined. The off-spinner has played as many as three Tests and 13 ODIs in Australia, which will help him in selecting the Pakistan squad based on the conditions on offer.

Former player Wajahatullah Wasti has also been appointed as head of the junior selection committee. Between 1999 and 2000, Wasti played six Tests, and 15 ODIs, amassing 678 runs combined, which include two red-ball tons and one white-ball fifty.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam and Co. will play England in their final group match on Saturday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

A win could push Pakistan's chances of qualifying into the semi-final even more, however, a loss would see them bow out of the competition.
