In a bid to make Test cricket more exciting, Cricket Australia (CA) have renamed the customary Perth Test as 'West Test' in honour of the 'West Test Hill' at the iconic WACA.  Australia lately plays its inaugural home season Test at the new Perth stadium as opposed to WACA, which has traditionally been a fortress for the hosts for several years.

As reported by The Nation, the first Test between Australia and Pakistan on December 14 will be called as 'West Test', which will be part of the latter's three-match tour later this year.

The designated 'West Hill' stand will feature a three-tier system, which will include a family and children's area as well, apart from roofed seating for fans. The women's Test between Australia and South Africa at WACA will also be called 'West Test' maintaining continuity across both stadiums in Perth.

CA General Manager, Events & Operations Joel Morrison explained the board's excitement over renaming the Test.

“International cricket in Perth has always been one of the great events of the Australian summer.  The ‘West Test’ will take this to another level combining world-class action on the field with brilliant experiences for fans within the stadium, including on ‘The Hill’ thanks to the support of NRMA Insurance.

The historic rivalry between Australia and Pakistan has been rekindled since our long-awaited tour to Pakistan last year so there is no better way to launch men’s international cricket this summer via the West Test in one of the world’s great cities."

The second and third Test will be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground and Sydney on December 26 and January 3.
