After a dominating ODI series win against South Africa, the Men in Blue started off the T20 series with a massive 101-run victory. Even after the glorious start, Sanju Samson’s snub from the playing XI has created buzz.
After Jitesh Sharma was named as the wicketkeeper in the match, a buzz was created over the equation between him and Sanju Samson. Following the spectacular win, Jitesh shut down the drama in style, calling their bond pure brotherhood.
Jitesh drops the truth bomb on his equation with Sanju
In the last match, Sanju Samson’s snub from Team India’s playing XI against South Africa grabbed attention. Making it dramatic, Shubman Gill was preferred for the opener’s role over Samson, and Jitesh Sharma was trusted with the gloves. The decision sparked wild chatter, especially about Jitesh’s real equation with Samson.
As the T20 World Cup is just a few days away, Samson’s place in the side is questionable, as some of the fans hinted at a rivalry between Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson. But reality had a plot twist as Jitesh ended the buzz after the match, clearing the air about their relationship.
“I am very grateful that he is in the team. Frankly speaking, he is like an elder brother. With healthy competition, your talent comes out. It is good for the team also. There is so much talent. You can feel it,” he said.
"Sanju bhaiya is a great player. I have to compete with him, that is when I have to be at my best. We are both trying to play for India. We are like brothers. We share a lot of experience with each other. He helps me a lot,” he added.
Jitesh Sharma on his finisher’s role
While batting first in the match, Team India faced an early collapse. With Hardik Pandya’s firepower, India got a major boost, and his 38-run partnership with Jitesh Sharma made a crucial impact. When Jitesh was later asked about his finisher’s role, he summed it up perfectly, calling it a “thankless job.”
“It’s a difficult job. It’s a thankless job, basically, finishing games. But I enjoy the pressure. When I go for the first six or five overs, I enjoy the pressure and excitement,” he said.
After a thumping 101-run win, India stormed ahead in the series 1-0. With the next match scheduled to be played in Mullanpur, Suryakumar Yadav and Co. will be eyeing another dominating victory over the Proteas.
