Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant recently opened up about the harrowing experience he endured following his road accident in December 2022. The accident, which occurred near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, was a near-fatal incident that left the young cricketer with significant injuries, including a ligament tear in his right knee and two cuts on his forehead. Since then, Pant has been sidelined from competitive cricket, focusing on his recovery.

Rishabh Pant reflected on life-altering road accident

Reflecting on the traumatic event during a conversation with Star Sports, Pant shared that for the first time in his life, he felt like he was facing death. Despite being conscious of his wounds at the time of the accident, he felt fortunate to have survived what could have been a more devastating outcome.

“First time in my life I felt like my time in this world is up. During the accident I was aware of the wounds, but I was lucky as it could have been even more serious. I was feeling that someone saved me,” said Pant.

Pant mentioned his gratitude, feeling as though he had been miraculously saved from a worse fate. When he inquired about the recovery time, the doctors estimated a lengthy 16-18 months. However, determined to return to the cricket field, Pant stated that he was firm in his commitment to expedite his rehabilitation process.

“I asked the doctor how long will it take for me to recover, he said it would take 16-18 months. I knew I had to work hard to cut this recovery time,” added the dynamic batter.

It is worth mentioning that Pant's journey to recovery included undergoing surgery in Mumbai. His progress has been promising, with the cricketer sharing constant updates on his rehabilitation through social media. These updates have given his fans glimpses into his determined efforts to return to cricket.

Apart from his recovery, Pant has been actively involved with his Indian Premier League team, the Delhi Capitals. He was present at the team's table during the IPL 2024 Auction held last year in Dubai and also participated in a training camp in November, signalling his ongoing commitment to the team despite his physical challenges. The 26-year-old is likely to return to action in IPL 2024.

As Pant continues on his path to recovery, the cricket community eagerly awaits his return to the field, where his dynamic presence has always been a game-changer.
