In a massive move, the Pakistan Cricket Board removed former cricketers Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz from the national selection committee on Tuesday, July 9. The apex body took the bold step as a part of the much-talked-about clean-up operation following Pakistan's horrendous performance in the T20 World Cup 2024. 


Why PCB sacked Abdul Razzaq & Wahab Riaz?

Meanwhile, the real reason behind Razzaq and Wahab's removal has been revealed. According to sources close to Cricket Pakistan, the governing body took disciplinary action against the two ex-cricketers based on the report from head coach Gary Kirsten and his deputy, Azhar Mehmood. 

The report accused Wahab of mismanagement, highlighting his ineffectiveness as a senior manager, particularly on overseas tours. 

Razzaq and Wahab were also guilty of favouritism as they influenced the selection of certain players despite their underwhelming performance. 

Wahab, who represented Pakistan in multiple World Cups, also failed to address disciplinary issues, especially ace speedster Shaheen Afridi's lack of seriousness.

Amid drastic changes at the administer level, Pakistan are gearing up to face South Asian rivals Bangladesh in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. 

Led by Babar Azam, the Men in Green also have a Test assignment against the Englishmen before the much-awaited Champions Trophy.
