Akash Choudhary smashes records with belligerent knock

Meghalaya's Akash Choudhary came to bat at number eight and ensured a mammoth score for his side with a magnificent knock. He started his innings with a dot and two singles before hammering eight consecutive sixes, eventually bringing up his fifty in just eleven balls.

Thus, he not only became only the third batter after Ravi Shashtri and Gary Sobers to smash six maximums in an over but also recorded the fastest half century in First-Class cricket. He broke the record set by Leicestershire's Wayne Knight, who brought up the milestone in twelve deliveries back in 2012.

Fastest fifties in First-Class cricket

  • Akash Choudhary (Meghalaya)- 11 balls, 2025
  • Wayne Knight (Leicestershire) - 12 balls, 2012
  • Clive Inman - 13 balls, 1965

It's important to note that although Clive Inman achieved the milestone in 13 balls, he remains the fastest to do so in terms of time taken as he did it in just eight minutes. Meanwhile, Akash Choudhary, having completed his 11-ball fifty in just nine minutes is second on the list.

25-year-old Akash Choudhary has played 30 First-Class matches, scoring 503 runs and scalping 87 wickets. He is a right-arm fast bowler, who can also bat a bit.

Talking about his List-A career, Akash has bagged 37 wickets in 28 outings at an average of 29.24 and a strike rate of 34.1. In response to Meghalaya's massive total of 628 runs, Arunachal were bowled out for 73 in their first innings. Akash Choudhary, who smashed the fastest fifty, also scalped the crucial wicket of Myendung Singpho.
