Suryakumar Yadav during Bangladesh match - (Source : @Johns/X.com)
On Wednesday, September 24, Bangladesh locked horns against India in their second match of the Super Four round in the ongoing Asia Cup. The Men in Blue registered a 41-run win over The Tigers to qualify for the finals.
It was not a great game with the bat for Suryakumar Yadav as the Indian skipper returned to the pavilion with a low score of 5 (11). However, the 35-year-old stole the limelight with his leadership. SKY impressed the critics with the rotation of bowlers and, eventually, his tactics helped India register a 41-run win.
SKY's Gesture vs Bangladesh Go Viral
However, Surya also became the talking point because of a gesture that went viral on the internet, where he gestured a scissor with his fingers as if to cut something.
The clip quickly went viral on the internet, and the fans spread the clip as SKY's reply to Haris Rauf and labelled it Surya, signifying the partition of Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971. However, for the unversed, it is not true, and this article will fact-check the viral clip to curb the fake news peddling on the internet.
Did Suryakumar Yadav make objectionable Gestures against Bangladesh?
For the unversed, India again dropped several catches against Bangladesh and did not learn from their mistakes against Pakistan. Similarly, after a dropped catch, SKY was laughing and signalled towards the pocket and gestured that the player's salary would be cut, who had dropped catches.
Thus, nowhere did SKY make any objectionable gesture nor make any reference to Bangladesh's partition from Pakistan.
Suryakumar Yadav Under ICC's Scanner After PCB's Complaint
The gesture has gone viral on the internet, as Surya is already under ICC's scanner after PCB filed a complaint against the Indian captain. Notably, the BCCI reportedly filed a complaint against Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan for their objectionable gestures against India.
In reply, the PCB filed a case against SKY for his remarks on the Indian army after India's group-stage win over Pakistan on September 14.
