In a big news coming from English cricketing circles, Matthew Mott, the 2022 T20 World Cup winning coach has stepped down from his role as England's white-ball coach. Marcus Trescothick who was the assistant coach during Mott's tenure has now been appointed as the interim head coach.

There were speculations that Mott will step down from the role after the semifinal exit in the T20 World Cup 2024, and the decision has been finally confirmed officially by ECB.

He was appointed as England's white-ball coach in May 2022 and after the immediate success in T20 World Cup, England had a poor 50-over World Cup campaign and could not defend their title in T20 World Cup 2024 as well.

Jos Buttler To Continue As Captain

Along with the change in coach, there were talks that England would have a change in captaincy too in white-ball formats. However, the recent developments have discarded those claims and Buttler is likely to continue atleast till Champions Trophy 2025.

The new interim head coach also shared his eagerness to work with Buttler and it would be interesting to see how long ECB persists with him before they apppoint a full-time coach.
