Jay Shah, the newly elected chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to reform Test cricket with his new innovative idea. The former BCCI Secretary has decided to introduce a two-tier system in Test cricket, with the aim to transform the format.

The new master plan would see Cricket's big 3 - India, England and Australia play each other more often as the trio generates most of the revenue for ICC. However, any reform in this format will be done after the end of the current Future Tours Program (FTP) in 2027.

What is the new two-tier system in Tests?

As per the new tier system which Jay Shah is planning to introduce, the top-3 teams like India, England and Australia will play each other more often as they they generate more money as compared to the other teams.

In this system, there will be Tier 1, and Tier 2. As of now, Tier 1 consists of India, Australia and England, and other teams could also be added. Interestingly, Pakistan, has been ignored in this system as the ICC is planning just to include the above mentioned teams. The rest of the teams will play in a tier below the three teams, and Test cricket will be divided into Tier 1 and 2.
