The England Cricket team stirred the pot on Adil Rashid’s 37th birthday by sharing a cheeky throwback to one of his career highlights. ECB posted a bamboozled Kohli off of Adil Rashid's spin magic on their social media handle of X.

The clip showcased Rashid’s lethal spin bamboozling Kohli during a past encounter back in 2018 with the caption, "Adilyllic! Happy birthday, Adil Rashid!" The tweet instantly went viral and within minutes fans were divided over the 'playful banter' vs. 'unnecessary jab' debate.

ECB's Brutal Social Media Jab At Kohli

The 31-second video, embedded in the tweet, captures Rashid’s crafty ball turning sharply into Kohli during India vs England's 3rd ODI at Leeds. Kohli misreads the trajectory as he attempts to drive the ball on his backfoot but the ball outfoxes him and crashes onto the stumps.

The dismissal remains a fan-favourite moment, often cited as proof of Adil Rashid’s ability to outfox even the best.

Born on February 17, 1988, in Bradford, England, Adil Rashid has carved a legacy as one of cricket’s most versatile leg-spinners. With over 212 ODI wickets and 131 T20I scalps, Rashid is a vital cog in the English bowling attack.

The Rashid-Kohli Rivalry

While the tweet reignited their rivalry, Rashid has dismissed Kohli 11 times in international cricket. Their most recent face-off during England’s 2025 tour of India saw Rashid ripping Kohli again.

Nevertheless, both India and England kick off their Champions Trophy campaigns this week. India faces Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20, while England takes on Australia in Lahore on February 22. With a potential India-England semi-final brewing, the Rashid-Kohli duel could yet become the tournament’s headline act.

Whether playful trolling or mind games ahead of the Champions Trophy, England’s tweet has set the stage for a fiery India-England showdown. For Rashid, the birthday gift was a reminder of his knack for delivering when it counts. For Kohli? Just another reason to bring his A-game to Dubai.
