Much has been debated at length about player longevity and workload management in modern-day cricket. England's bowling duo of Stuart Broad and James Anderson are near-perfect examples of maintaining fitness and form in the late 30s.

Broad was the highest wicket-taker (29) for England over their summer, while Anderson came in a close second with 27. Both were dropped quite controversially on England's tour of the West Indies in January but have made a remarkable comeback since.

England's Test head coach Brendon McCullum dispelled doubts over the duo's future and hinted at them playing in The Ashes 2023, which will be played in the UK.

“They’ll be here. They’re both smiling. How good’s that? Those guys are phenomenal cricketers. They could finish any time they wanted and they’d still be considered greats of the game,

“What they’re doing is continuing to build on the legacy they’re going to leave for the next generation - the time they’re giving other people in the dressing room is phenomenal.” - McCullum was quoted by  The Telegraph

McCullum further lauded the duo's work ethic and their role on the side. Between them, Broad and Anderson have scalped 1,233 international wickets.

Anderson will turn 41, while Broad will be 37 by the time Australia visits England for a five-Test series next year.
