With India pocketing their last T20I assignment before the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, all focus for team management and think-tank shifts on the marquee event, which will take place in June.

Rohit Sharma, who returned to T20Is after a 14-month-long gap, notched up his 42nd win as captain after India defeated Afghanistan in Bangalore last evening, where the hosts tried out their bench strength all across the three matches.

Sharma, who is most likely to lead India in the T20 WC 2024, opened up about how he and coach Rahul Dravid have tried to keep transparency about their selection policies and have given clarity regarding the same to players as well.

Speaking to Jio Cinema, Sharma, who has featured in all T20 World Cups thus far, said that the 15-member squad for the 2024 edition is not locked and that one cannot keep everyone happy during the selection of Team India.

You can keep 15 players happy. Then also, only 11 are happy - Rohit Sharma

"We have not finalised the 15-member squad but there are 8-10 players in our minds. So we will make our combinations according to the conditions. In the West Indies, the conditions are slow, so we'll have to pick our team accordingly. As far as Rahul Dravid and I are concerned, we've tried to maintain clarity."

"You can't keep everyone happy, that is what I've learnt in my time as captain. You can keep 15 players happy. Then also, only 11 are happy. The four players sitting on the bench also ask why they're not playing. I've learnt that you can't keep everyone happy, and the focus should be on the team's goal."

The T20 World Cup squad will most likely be based on performances in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Meanwhile, India who play their opening T20 WC encounter on June 5, have been placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and the United States.
