On Wednesday, talismanic Indian batter Virat Kohli will make his comeback to the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Kohli recently looked in great touch in the home ODI series against South Africa and would like to extend his purple patch in 50-over cricket.

The experienced campaigner, having already retired from Tests and T20Is, aims to stay in touch with the game and keep himself match-ready through a short stint with Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Meanwhile, Kohli is on the verge of a historic milestone, which he is most likely to achieve in the domestic tournament.

Virat Kohli to join Sachin Tendulkar on elite list of batters

Delhi's inaugural Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Andhra will be Virat Kohli's comeback game in the domestic competition. The game is set to be played behind closed doors at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is only one run away from joining Sachin Tendulkar on an elite list of batters. The veteran cricketer has slammed 15999 runs and needs only a single run to breach the 16000-run mark in List-A cricket.

Most runs in List-A cricket (Indian batters)

  • Sachin Tendulkar - 21999 runs in 538 innings
  • Virat Kohli - 15999 runs in 329 innings
  • Rohit Sharma - 13758 runs 338 innings
  • Sourav Ganguly - 15622 runs in 421 innings
  • Shikhar Dhawan - 12074 runs in 298 innings

As mentioned above, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most runs in List-A cricket. Virat Kohli is placed second with 15999 runs across 329 innings, with Rohit Sharma, Sourav Ganguly, and Shikhar Dhawan following the legendary Indian duo at third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively.

Thus, if Virat Kohli scores one run against Andhra, he will become the second batter to bring up 16000 runs after Sachin Tendulkar in List-A cricket.

After taking on Andhra, Delhi will cross swords against Gujarat, Saurashtra, Odisha, Services, Railways, and Haryana in their subsequent Vijay Hazare Trophy clashes.
