Dawid Malan, the left-handed English batter who was once ranked as the number 1 T20I batter has retired from international cricket.

The 37-year-old top order batter last played for England in the World Cup 2023 and has decided to hang his boots after being ignored for the ODI and T20I series against Australia. He played across formats for England and has scored century in each of the format after making his international debut in the T20I against South Africa in 2017.

He played 62 T20Is for England and was England's dependable number 3 batter in the shortest format where he has sixteen fifties and a century. He also played 22 Test matches and 30 ODIs for England, and was known for his calm and composed character.

Malan was also part of England's T20 World Cup winning squad in 2022, and after that World Cup, he showed his prowess in ODI cricket with five centuries in just 15 innings.

Dawid Malan To Shift Focus To Franchise Cricket

He is likely to play franchise cricket across the globe now after his international retirement and in the past has played one game in IPL for Punjab Kings during the 2021 edition at the height of his T20 powers.

He was also part of the Oval Invincibles squad that won The Hundred 2024, and is likely to play a big role in SA20 for Sunrisers Hyderabad with whom he won the 2024 edition of the league.
