In a significant development, several prominent players who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction have secured contracts in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025.
With the PSL 2025 clashing with the IPL during the April-May window, many unsold players from the IPL auction were snapped up by PSL franchises. The PSL Draft held on January 13, saw 116 players from 10 countries being distributed among six teams. In this article, let's take a closer look at three star players who missed out on the IPL but will now feature in the PSL 2025.
1. Kane Williamson
The first and foremost player on the list is Kane Williamson. Talking about the PSL draft, Williamson placed himself in the platinum category but went unsold earlier but later on was picked in the supplementary category. The New Zealand player was picked as a supplementary player by Karachi Kings. It is important to mention that supplementary players are chosen as replacements for those players who are partially or fully unavailable during the tournament.
For IPL 2024, Williamson played two games for the Gujarat Titans and scored mere 27 runs. The star player is currently representing Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 2025.
2. David Warner
Australian dynamic player David Warner retired from international cricket in 2024 but however continued to shine in franchise leagues. Although he managed 168 runs in eight games for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024, he found no bidders in the IPL 2025 auction.
In the PSL draft, Karachi Kings brought the services of David Warner in the Platinum round. The left-handed opener is currently the leading run-scorer of the ongoing Big Bash League 2024-25, he has made 324 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 141.48.
With Karachi Kings aiming for their PSL title, Warner’s experience and current form will strengthen their top order.
3. Daryl Mitchell
New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell became the first player to be signed in the PSL Draft, joining the Lahore Qalandars. Mitchell, known for his versatility, is set to strengthen the team’s middle order.
In IPL 2024, Mitchell represented CSK, he made 318 runs in 13 matches at an impressive strike rate of 142.60. Despite his consistent performances, he went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. Mitchell’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball will likely make him a crucial player for Lahore Qalandars in PSL 2025.
