In the recent news, Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain and iconic wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is set to meet franchise officials either on October 29 or 30, just days before the IPL 2025 retention deadline.
The meeting holds immense significance, as CSK management eagerly awaits Dhoni's decision regarding his availability for the upcoming season of the IPL 2025. With the retention deadline set for October 31, all eyes are on the legendary cricketer to see if he will return for what could be his final season in the IPL.
MS Dhoni To Meet CSK Officials To Confirm About His Participation
It is worth mentioning that, MS Dhoni has not yet confirmed his participation in IPL 2025. According to the reports of Sports Tak, CSK officials approached him earlier, but he made it clear that he would not be available for discussions until October 28, prompting a meeting either on the 29th or 30th.
The franchise remains optimistic about retaining their long-time skipper, who has led them to multiple IPL titles over the years. If MS Dhoni decides to play one more season, CSK will have the option of retaining him under the recently reinstated ‘uncapped player’ rule.
The rule, reintroduced at the request of IPL franchises, allows any player who retired from international cricket five years prior to the season or who hasn’t played international cricket in the past five years to be categorized as ‘uncapped.’ Dhoni, who last played for India in 2019 and retired in 2020, qualifies for this rule, allowing CSK to retain him for a fee of INR 4 crore.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently acknowledged the uncertainty around Dhoni's availability, confirming that a final decision will be made before the October 31 retention deadline. As the franchise prepares to meet with Dhoni, the cricketing world awaits his decision.
