IPL stars in CPL [Source: AFP Photo]
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest cricket carnival every year, and rightly so. It attracts top players, it generates tons of money, and the world's best sponsors want to be associated with the league. However, there is another league far away from the IPL, which has a different fan following - the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
The 13th season of the league will commence on August 14, and the next 45 days will turn into a festival as some of the best T20 players will take part in it. But, did you know, three Indian IPL stars have also played in CPL, and have been a huge part of its success. Here are the players from IPL who tried their luck in CPL.
1) Ambati Rayudu
One of the biggest IPL stars, Ambati Rayudu, represented the Chennai Super Kings, and the Mumbai Indians in the league and became a legend with 6 IPL titles to his name. In the 2023 CPL season, Rayudu, well past his prime, tried his luck in the Caribbean league and played for St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
He couldn't do much with the bat, and it turned out to be a disappointing season for the Indian batter. He could only accumulate 47 runs in 3 matches, at a strike rate of 117.5.
2) Pravin Tambe
Pravin Tambe was the second-oldest Indian to feature in the IPL, and after a couple of successful seasons, he decided to play in the CPL for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2020 edition. It turned out to be a legendary campaign for the franchise as they went unbeaten and won all 12 matches.
Tambe, too, had a decent outing, picking up 3 wickets in as many matches, at an economy of just 4.
3) Sunny Sohal
Sunny Sohal was an opening batter, who regularly featured for the Deccan Chargers and the Punjab Kings. He never had a breakout IPL season, and the Indian cricketer shifted his base to the USA. This allowed him to easily play in CPL, but the batter couldn't quite deliver the goods.
He played just two games for Barbados and accumulated 39 runs.
