As per latest happening, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have demanded from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider MS Dhoni as an uncapped player ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auctions.

It has been reported by ESPNcricinfo that the five-time champion want to reintroduce an old IPL rule, where a player would have retired five years ago would be considered as uncapped in the league.

However, the rule was scrapped by the IPL committee ahead of Indian Premier League 2022 mega-auctions.

"If a player has retired from International cricket for more than 5 years will be considered as Uncapped in IPL," the report from ESPNcricinfo read.

It is worth mentioning that Dhoni, who played his last game for India back in 2019, retired from international cricket in 2020, when he called off his time through an emotional Instagram post.

"If the IPL sets similar costs for uncapped players retained ahead of the 2025 auction, it is believed that CSK are keen to retain Dhoni via that route. Several other franchises, however, were not in favour of giving long-retired internationals uncapped status," ESPNcricinfo's report further read.

Furthermore, it has understood that IPL franchise owners like Kavya Maran has showed retaliation against CSK demand, saying "It would be disrespect towards a retired player and his value."
