In a significant development, Chennai Super Kings have called up young Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre for trials amid their poor run the ongoing Indian Premier League season. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Super Kings have lost two out of their first three matches, reeling at seventh position in the IPL 2025 points table.

Who Is Ayush Mhatre?

Ayush Mhatre is a promising batter from Mumbai, who grabbed a million eyeballs through a string of scintillating performances in the domestic circuit. It's worth-mentioning that CSK trialled him last year as well, but they didn't purchase him in last year's mega auction.

Mhatre performed admirably in the U19 Asia Cup last year, amassing 176 runs at a superb average of 44 and a blistering strike rate of 135.38. The stylish right-handed batter also enjoyed stellar success in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, slamming 458 runs at a glorious average of 65.43 and a strike rate of 135.50.

CSK Impressed With Mhatre As They Consider Revamping Batting Core

According to Times Of India (TOI), the Super Kings think tank seems impressed with Mhatre's recent performances. However, CSK CEO Mr. Kasi Viswanathan dismissed any injury rumours in the camp, revealing that Mhatre would be picked only if the situation arises.

“Yes, we’ve called him for trials. He has impressed our talent scouts. If there’s any need, we’ll do that. We’re not picking anybody, it’s just a trial," he was quoted as saying by TOI.

After incurring two defeats in three outings, CSK are preparing to take on Delhi Capitals in their fourth match of the season on April 5.
