In a significant development, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced England's playing XI for the final ODI of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa. The hosts have made a solitary change to their combination from the previous game, bringing Jamie Overton back into the mix.

Jamie Overton Returns To England XI For 3rd ODI vs South Africa

On Saturday, the ECB unveiled England's playing XI for the final dead-rubber against the Proteas, who have already clinched the series by taking an unassailable 2-0 lead with consecutive victories in the first two matches. The home side has replaced Saqib Mahmood with Surrey's reputed all-rounder and Chennai Super Kings' star, Jamie Overton.

Overton couldn't find a place in England's playing XI for the first two matches of the series. Overall, he has bagged seven wickets in five ODI innings and looked impressive in the West Indies home series in May. On the other hand, Saqib Mahmood, who replaced Sonny Baker in the second ODI, went wicketless for 53 runs in his ten-over spell.

Thus, England have kept the rest of their combination unchanged, with Jamie Smith, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer set to play crucial roles for them.

England were comprehensively outclassed by their South African counterparts in the first two matches of the series. After winning the opening encounter by seven wickets, the visitors pipped the home team by five runs in a thriller at Lord's to seal the series. With one game left, England would be desperate to get back on the winning track and conclude the series on a high note.
