In a major development, the BCCI, on Saturday, announced India's A-squad for the upcoming unofficial Test series against Australia-A. While Shreyas Iyer will lead the side, the presence of B Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal and Prasidh Krishna makes the Indian A side a tough team to beat in home conditions. Meanwhile, the absence of several renowned players, especially Sarfaraz Khan, made fans raise their eyebrows.
Why BCCI Excluded Sarfaraz Khan From India-A Team?
Mumbai's key batter Sarfaraz Khan recently grabbed the headlines following his excellent performance in the Buchi Babu invitational tournament. The right-hander, who was dropped from India's first-choice Test XI after the New Zealand home series, slammed a magnificent century before an injury sidelined him from the Duleep Trophy.
It's worth mentioning that Sarfaraz sustained a quadricep injury during the Buchi Babu tournament. It was reported that the dynamic batter would be out of action for at least two to three weeks. So, as he is still recovering from the injury, the BCCI had to ignore him for the unofficial Tests against Australia-A.
Sarfaraz's injury is a massive setback for his Test comeback. He was in red-hot form and could've emerged as a game-changer for the India-A side as a middle-order batter. Had he been fit, Sarfaraz would've got a golden opportunity to impress the team management and return to the Test setup in the West Indies home series.
On the contrary, his absence turns out to be a blessing in disguise for his competitors, Devdutt Padikkal, N Jagadeesan and B Sai Sudharsan. While Sudharsan would be keen to turn things around after failing in the England Tests, Padikkal and Jagadeesan will eye a Test comeback by making their chances count in the unofficial Test series.
