IPL 2025 win for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and their fans turned into a day of heartbreak and mourning, as a deadly stampede broke out outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday evening. The incident claimed the lives of 11 people and injured at least 50 others.

The tragic incident occurred during the grand celebrations organized to honour RCB’s maiden IPL title win in the 2025 season. Earlier in the day, the entire RCB squad was felicitated by the Karnataka state government in a special ceremony held at the Vidhana Soudha. 

Loyal fans had gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of their cricketing heroes as they made their way to the stadium for further celebrations.

However, the joy quickly turned to chaos as overwhelming crowds surged outside the stadium gates. According to reports, the police and event authorities struggled to control the enormous gathering. The lack of proper barricading and mismanagement of crowd flow reportedly led to a sudden rush that led to the stampede-like situation.

"At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted," Virat Kohli wrote on Instagram, sharing RCB's official statement about the incident.



“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the tragic events at the Chinnaswamy stadium today,” de Villiers wrote on his X account.

With this incident, security and administrative arrangements for large public events are now under scrutiny, with many questioning why better crowd control mechanisms were not in place, especially considering the scale of the celebration.

It is important to note that the RCB franchise has announced that all upcoming public celebrations have been postponed.
