Day 2 of the three matches of the County Championship Division One resumed on September 13. Here's a sneak peek into the action which transpired at Leeds, Birmingham and Northampton. 


Yorkshire vs Essex

After Yorkshire was dismissed on 134, Esse started their first innings afresh on Day 2 in Leeds. After the dismissal of Nick Browne, Alastair Cook (23) and Tom Westley (20) added 43 runs for the second wicket. 

However, the in-form Dan Lawrence (61) and Shane Snater (46) were clinical to help the team in posting a score of 225 on the board. The pick of the bowlers for Yorkshire was Jordan Thompson with four scalps. 

In response, Adam Lyth again failed to provide a notable contribution. Nevertheless, Finlay Bean (41*) and George Hill (33*) have displayed composure to see the team finishing Day 2 on 87/2.

Warwickshire vs Somerset

Somerset began Day 2 on 182/8. In only the fourth ball of the first over, Mohammed Siraj completed his five-for by taking prize scalp of Lewis Gregory (60).  However, Sajid Khan continued his good form and remained unbeaten 53 off 64, while taking the team to 219. 

Afterwards, Gregory was immaculate with his line-lengths to take the wickets of Dom Sibley (5) and Alex Davies (9) early. It was the proficient pair of Sam Hain (67) and Will Rhodes (38), which resurrected the team's innings. 

Then, Jayant Yadav (28) and Siraj (21) provided important contributions, which paved way for Warwickshire to finish on 196. Jack Brooks was the pick of the bowlers with four scalps for Somerset. 

At the end of Day 2, The Tom Abell-led side were rocked by dismissals of Imam-ul-Haq and Kasey Aldridge. Somerset are at 13/2, with Abell and Tom Lammonby at the crease.

Northamptonshire vs Surrey

Northants resumed Day 2 on 249/4, with Rob Keogh and Ricardo Vasconcelos at the crease. They added 34 runs in the first hour of the play, before Vasconcelos (18) was dismissed. Keogh played like a lone warrior to finish on 123 off 180, resulting in the team posting 339.

Kemar Roach was the best performing bowler for Surrey with five scalps. In response, skipper Rory Burns (10) and Ryan Patel (10) were dismissed early. However, Hashim Amla (97*) and Cameron Steel (48) were impressive to help the team in ending the Day on 224/5.
