Azeem Rafiq is slated to provide further evidence about his experience of racial abuse. The Pakistan-born cricketer will deliver the same at a parliamentary select committee later this year.

At a Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee (DCMS) hearing last year, the former Yorkshire player opened up on his experience during his two stints at the cricket club.

Rafiq and Yorkshire chair Lord Patel to give hearing this year

As per the PA news agency, there is an interest within the committee to hear Rafiq and Yorkshire chair Lord Patel once again this year. However, neither of the two have been formally requested by the committee to appear.

The report further states that they will be able to speak out freely and will be under the protection of parliamentary privilege.

The DCMS also wants the representatives from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to appear at the hearing.

Back in June, the ECB announced that Yorkshire had been charged following Rafiq’s startling allegations of racism within the cricket club.

Former Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale was one of the individuals to have been charged over the same. Notably, Gale said that he would not be engaging with the process, describing the charges as “tainted”.

Meanwhile, England’s international Gary Ballance issued a personal apology to Rafiq for using “racist” language towards his former Yorkshire teammate.
