Chris Woakes has penned a new contract with the Warwickshire cricket club, just a few weeks after confirming his retirement from international cricket. The star all-rounder recently dislocated his shoulder during England’s home Test series against Team India a couple of months ago.

The injury prompted the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to drop Chris Woakes from England’s Ashes 2025-26 plans in Australia later this year.

Chris Woakes commits to Warwickshire for new chapter

Chris Woakes has signed a contract extension with the Warwickshire cricket club for all three formats for the next two seasons. His renewed stint with Warwickshire will now extend his association with the club beyond 20 years, considering the cricketer first joined them back during England’s 2006 domestic home season.

As confirmed by the Warwickshire cricket club on their social media platforms, Woakes expressed his excitement, and described his signing a “new chapter with the club”. Looking forward to the 2026 season next year, the 2019 World Cup winner added:

“We've got a talented squad, and I genuinely believe we are in a great position to be challenging for trophies throughout the new season.”

Chris Woakes, aged 36, announced his retirement from international cricket a few weeks ago after he was left out of England’s squad for the upcoming 2025-26 Ashes Test series in Australia. The cricketer is currently battling to recover from the shoulder injury he sustained against Team India.

In the final Test of his career, Woakes stepped out to bat at number 11 with a dislocated shoulder at a time when the Englishmen were in pursuit of a historic heist, only for his partner Gus Atkinson to falter at the brink of the finishing line.
