On Day 1 of the fifth Test between India and England at the Kia Oval in London, star seamer Chris Woakes suffered an injury right before the end of play and was carried off the field in pain.

Woakes injured his shoulder during a diving effort to save the ball from the boundary. Later, the right-arm seamer was sent for scans, and the ECB confirmed that Woakes has been ruled out of the fifth Test and the Three Lions will play the rest of the game with a player short.

Woakes All But Out Of Ashes 2025

In the latest events, a report from The Telegraph UK mentioned that the injury looks more serious than expected, and the right-arm seamer is most likely to miss the Ashes as well.

The report stated that the doctors confirmed a serious injury to the shoulder and might require surgery. A surgery would mean that Woakes will miss the next five months of action.

Notably, England will next take on Australia in Australia for a five-match series starting from November 21.

England To Miss Woakes In Australia

England will miss Woakes in the Ashes as the right-arm seamer had a great time against India in the ongoing tour. The 36-year-old has taken 11 wickets in nine innings in the ongoing series and contributed valuable 38 runs to England's total in the first Test, which helped the hosts register a remarkable win.

Nonetheless, England are looking at other options to include in the Ashes as Gus Atkinson too dropped his name for selection after heroics in the first innings of the fifth Test against India. Notably, the right-arm seamer took a five-wicket haul on his comeback match.

Despite the injury and getting ruled out of the fifth Test against India, Woakes made his presence at the Oval and was captured sitting in England's dressing room.
