Cheteshwar Pujara, renowned Test specialist from India, is set to join the Sussex squad ahead of the upcoming County season. He is committed to participating in the initial seven county matches, marking his third consecutive season with Sussex.

Notably, the Indian management has made a decisive move to move past Cheteshwar Pujara in Test cricket. His final appearance for India was in June during the World Test Championship Finals against Australia.

However, a less-than-ideal performance led to his exclusion from the team following India's defeat. Despite a decade-long role as India's premier No.3 batter in red-ball cricket, Pujara now finds himself on the sidelines.

Prioritising young players, the Indian selection committee has also opted not to include him and Ajinkya Rahane in the Rohit Sharma-led India lineup for the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa.

Here’s what Cheteshwar Pujara has said on his return to Sussex yet again:

“I have enjoyed my time at Hove the last couple of seasons and couldn’t be more delighted to be back again with the Sussex family. “I am looking forward to joining the team and contributing to its success.”

Here’s what Sussex Head Coach, Paul Farbrace, has to say on having Pujara back in the team:

“I am delighted that Cheteshwar is returning to Hove again for the first two months of the season. “He is not just a high-quality player but is also a high-quality person. His experience and calmness in matches is a fantastic asset for our team.”

As for Sussex, Pujara has a brilliant record while playing for them in the County championship. In his 18 County Championship appearances for Sussex, the 35-year-old has accumulated 1863 runs at an average of 64.24 which includes eight centuries and three half-centuries.
