Indian Premier League (IPL)'s four-time champions, Chennai Super League (CSK), have signed an on-song South African seamer, Sisanda Magala, for the upcoming edition of the league. Magala has replaced an injured Kyle Jamieson, whose back was injured last month.
Earlier in the IPL Auction, the Kiwi all-rounder was acquired by CSK for INR 1 crore. However, the South African seamer will join the IPL franchise at his base price (INR 50 Lakhs).
Jamieson was out of action due to back injury since June last year, looking to come back in action for the Blackcaps in the recently concluded Test series against England at home.
Unfortunately, the 28-year-old had to go through a surgery due to his recurring back injury, which ruled him out of action for at least three to four months.
As a result, CSK signed Magala as his replacement, who has represented South Africa in Four T20 Internationals and five ODIs. The 32-year-old is an experienced campaigner in the shortest format of the game, particularly known for his deadly yorkers, change of pace in the death overs and his temperament to deliver under pressure.
In addition, he has the ability to hit the ball long batting down the order and played a key role in Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s title-winning SA20 campaign, taking 14 wickets at a strike rate of 16.5 and an economy of 8.68.
The 16th edition of the IPL is scheduled to start from 31st March, with defending Champions Gujarat Titans hosting the Chennai Super Kings at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
