Shikha Pandey three wickets with the ball, followed by an all-round batting effort helped Delhi Capitals Women to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore Women in Match 11 of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL 2023)

Perry, Ghosh propels RCB to 150

After being asked to bat first, RCB Women had a very slow start, managing only 29 off the first six overs. Mandhana had another off day with the bat, scoring just eight off 15 balls before Shikha Pandey removed the RCB skipper in the very first ball of her spell. Bangalore went on to lose Sophie Devine after the powerplay and were 50 for two at the halfway mark.

Heather Knight too could not make much of a difference to RCB’s scoring rate and got out to a terrific catch by Shikha at short fine leg. Following the wicket of Knight, Richa Ghosh joined Ellyse Perry in the middle and the duo launched a counter attack.

The duo added a quick 74 runs for the fifth wicket which changed the momentum of RCB’s innings completely. Ghosh got out after scoring a brilliant 16-ball 37, while Perry completed her fifty at the other end and remained till the end, taking RCB to 150 in 20 overs.

Shikha Pandey was the pick of the bowlers, who took three wickets in her spell, including the wicket of dangerous Richa Ghosh at the end.

Chasing 151, Delhi Capitals got off to a poor start, losing Shafali Verma for a golden duck in the very first over. However, Alice Capsey, batting at three, scored a flurry of boundaries and got out for 38 off 24, leaving Delhi with 52 for two at the end of the powerplay.

Meg Lanning had a rare off day with the bat as she could only manage a 15 off 18 and got out after the powerplay. RCB managed to put a break on the run-flow, but Jemimah Rodrigues, along with Marizanne Kapp kept the scoreboard going, keeping the required run-rate in check.

RCB managed to remove Rodrigues before the slogging overs but there were not enough runs on the board to put immense pressure on the Delhi batters. Kapp kept hitting boundaries at regular intervals, but it was Jess Jonassen at the other end, who killed the game completely with her brilliant 15-ball 29 cameo and the Capitals got across the line with two balls to spare.
