Sri Lanka announced their 17-member squad for the upcoming ODI series in New Zealand, and it’s looking formidable with some seasoned campaigners. Charith Asalanka will lead the team as they get ready for three matches on January 5, 8, and 11.

Sri Lanka Announced ODI Squad for Three-Match Series Against New Zealand

The Lions recently beat New Zealand 2-0 at home, and now they’ll look to carry that form into Kiwi conditions.

There are a few changes in the squad. Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dushan Hemantha, and Dilshan Madushanka are out. Coming in are Lahiru Kumara, Eshan Malinga, and Wanindu Hasaranga. Hasaranga’s return is a big boost. His all-round game is a weapon Sri Lanka will need on tough pitches in New Zealand.

Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka will anchor the batting lineup. Their recent form has been fantastic, and they’ll need to bring their A-game away from home.

This squad has a nice mix of young guns and seasoned players. Nissanka and Asalanka are the big names at the top, but Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando bring that much-needed experience. Kamindu Mendis and Janith Liyanage will hold key in the middle order.


Wanindu Hasaranga Returns

In the bowling dept, spinners like Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, and Jeffrey Vandersay will be crucial. Lahiru Kumara, Asitha Fernando, and Chamidu Wickramasinghe will lead the pace attack, and Eshan Malinga adds some depth.

The ODIs are set to be played in Wellington, Hamilton, and Auckland. Conditions will favour the home side but Sri Lanka has the tools to compete. If the batters can adapt and adjust quickly and the bowlers stay disciplined, the Lions can roar in Kiwi territory.
