Champions Trophy 2025 Not To Be Played In Pakistan? BCCI Official Gives 'Shocking' Update

In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cleared its stance on India's potential participation in the Champions Trophy next year. BCCI's vice-president Rajiv Shukla has revealed that the Indian team's participation in the tournament will be subject to the Government's approval.

Speaking to ANI, Mr Shukla stated that the BCCI will only obey the Indian Government's decision, which will be considered final regarding the matter.

"In the case of the Champion Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India will tell us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India gives us permission. So we will go according to the decision of the Indian government."

Notably, India abolished its bilateral cricketing ties with Pakistan following the country's involvement in the infamous Mumbai terror attack in 2008.

Although it resumed for a brief period in 2012-13, India eventually called it off again for the same reason.

So, since 2012-13, both teams haven't played a single bilateral series, facing each other only in the ICC tournaments.

However, as India hasn't travelled to Pakistan since 2008, their Government is expected to take the familiar call, not allowing the players to play the Champions Trophy on Pakistani soil.

If it indeed happens, the PCB could propose a hybrid model and conduct the tournament like the Asia Cup 2023.
