Before the start of the India-England series, the fans had cast their doubts over the future of Indian cricket as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their Test retirement in June 2025. The news sent the fans into a shockwave, and there were claims that the ECB and BCCI would suffer a viewership crisis and would have difficulty selling tickets.

Much to everyone's belief, Virat and Rohit's retirement had little to no impact on viewership, as the fans turned up in thousands, and so far, the three Tests have garnered great viewership. In the latest events, the fans actually showed a mirror to Virat and Rohit Sharma fans over their earlier claims, but it seems the ECB itself is banking on Kohli's popularity. 

ECB Takes Advantage Of Virat Kohli's Brand Value

A picture has gone viral on the internet from outside the Old Trafford stadium, where the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is using Virat's image to promote their summer games. 

The viral poster outside The Old Trafford features Virat Kohli next to Smriti Mandhana and Kagiso Rabada to promote India Women's tour to England, India Men's tour to England, and England taking on South Africa. 

The fans quickly took note of the clever tactics by the ECB and took to social media to remind fans of Virat Kohli's brand value. 

Virat Kohli Asked To Come Out Of Retirement

Recently, former India batter Madan Lal has urged Virat Kohli to come out of retirement and help the visitors, who are trailing 1-2 in the five-match Test series. 

"Virat Kohli's passion for Indian cricket was unmatched. It's my wish that he should come back to Test cricket after retirement. There's nothing wrong with returning. If not in this series, he should make a comeback in the next,” Madan Lal told CricketPredicta.

Notably, Madan Lal praised Virat for the aggression he brings to the field and the calmness to his batting.
