After Rahul Dravid’s exit from Rajasthan Royals years ago, the team has now seen another big departure. Jake Lush McCrum, who was the CEO of the franchise, has decided to step down, according to a report by Cricbuzz.
This news adds to the ongoing changes in the team, which has struggled to live up to its early promise. The Royals won the very first IPL season back in 2008, but haven’t been able to repeat that success in the 16 years since. While captain Sanju Samson is still with the team, rumors about him possibly leaving have become one of the hottest topics in IPL circles.
McCrum, who is originally from the UK, worked his way up in the Royals’ management. He started in a junior role and, by 2021, became CEO at just 28 years old. Now, he has informed people in the industry that he is moving on from the Jaipur-based franchise.
So who actually owns Rajasthan Royals today?
Manoj Badale - He is the main owner and the driving force behind the team. A businessman who co-founded venture capital firm Blenheim Chalcot, Badale has been steadily increasing his stake over the years. He now owns the majority of the team.
RedBird Capital Partners – An American investment firm led by Gerry Cardinale, they bought into the Royals in 2021. They also own stakes in Liverpool FC and the Boston Red Sox, bringing global sports experience to the table.
Lachlan Murdoch – From the well-known Murdoch media family, he also owns a minority stake. He runs major media businesses like Fox Corporation and News Corp.
Rajasthan Royals Past Owners
When the franchise started in 2008, it was co-owned by Badale’s Emerging Media IPL Limited, Blue Water Estate Limited, Tresco International, Raj Kundra, and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. The team faced a two-year ban in 2015 after the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, but returned in 2018 with changes in ownership.
The late Shane Warne, the Royals’ first captain, also became a part-owner, holding up to 3% of the franchise after his playing career.
In 2020, Badale’s company increased its share by buying stakes from a Nigerian firm. Then, in 2021, it further boosted its ownership to 65% when RedBird Capital bought 15%.
As reported by the Economic Times, by March 2025, Manoj Badale’s Emerging Media IPL Ltd. owns about 65% of Rajasthan Royals, with RedBird Capital and Lachlan Murdoch holding the remaining minority stakes.
